Finding Vocation:
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4 Wednesdays, Oct 8, 15, 22, 29, 2008
Most people spend more time planning a vacation than they do thinking about their life. In order to move forward with confidence and find your vocation, both clarity and courage are necessary. This program gives you time for personal self-reflection, sharing with a partner, and group discussion, all within the context of the discernment model, Clarity and Courage. Come with your musings about your career restlessness, your retirement, your job loss, or other major life changes. And enjoy the live piano music that will help us on the journey. Included as a special gift from the program leader is a one-on-one follow-up session during the coming year. TIM ELLIOTT, DMin, (www.TimElliott.ca) is a vocation consultant, whose doctoral work focused on helping people find their vocation. Through Elliott Resource Services, Tim offers programs that integrate music, spirituality, teamwork, creativity and business to encourage purposeful and responsible living for both organizations and individuals. He is the author of Clarity and Courage: Life as an Improvised Journey, and has released a solo piano CD All the Things You Are. An Anglican priest who started popular Jazz Vespers services, Tim is an honourary assistant at the Church of the Redeemer, Toronto, and also performs regularly as a solo pianist and with his quartet. And just for fun, he is researching the connection between jazz and spirituality! Reach him at Tim@TimElliott.ca.LOCATION: In the South Studio on the lower level of our partner, Eglinton St.

Therefore it can help us to recognize how to overcome obstacles, to see and seize opportunities, to sense how to heal or deepen relationships. Tonight, be introduced to the world of intuition, learning a process and about both applications and barriers. See how intuitive you already are and how your intuition can enhance your work and give your daily life "flow". Katherine Opashinov is an accomplished intuition teacher, healer, and coach. She has taught about intuition through the Toronto District School board, Centennial College, and the University of Toronto as well as professional organizations. She is founder of the Intuitive Centre: Intuition Education & Support (www.IntuitiveCentre.com), with a private practice as both a psychotherapist and a coach. Reach Katherine through www.KatherineOpashinov.com. CAR-POOLING: If you are coming from outside Toronto and can give a ride or need a ride, please contact Rita Reid-Smith at reid-smith@rogers.com. Appreciative Inquiry:
Saturday Nov 8 2008
Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is grounded in asking questions from a strength-based
perspective, and envisioning the future in order to energize positive change.
It is both a worldview and a process for change - a habit of mind, heart, and
imagination that leads to learning and creativity. Unlike traditional problem
solving that looks at what is wrong and forges solutions to fix problems, AI
seeks what is good and vital - in a person, a situation or an organization.
Particularly effective in turbulent and rapidly changing environments, AI builds
a collaborative framework for creating a preferred future through the power of
positive and engaging questions. Join us on this Saturday to learn about and
actually practise this powerful approach. MAUREEN (MO) McKENNA,a partner inThe SuMo Experience
(www.TheSumoExperience.com),
focuses her organizational development and change
management expertise on designing and facilitating conversations that build
and SUstain MOmentum. With many years of hands-on management experience at
Xerox Canada, Mo now consults to and trains numerous clients in the public,
private and non-profit sectors. Reach her at Mo@TheSumoExperience.com.
NANCY NIGHTINGALE, M.Ed.,M.Ed., a former Secondary School Principal
in the public education system, is an AI practitioner. She has first hand

about positive change in organizational design and programming. Contact Nancy

Language at Work:
Tonight, take part in a conversation with an expert about some of the
benefits and pitfalls of discussing faith issues at work. Religious beliefs
play a part in our daily interactions, but many people are afraid to ask questions about a co-worker's religious practices and beliefs. What different things do certain terms mean to people of different faith backgrounds? How can religion and spirituality be discussed in an informative and enriching way, without crossing the line in the
workplace? Join us and bring your own questions and stories.
ROB BARLOW, LLB is a journalist with the CBC's National Radio
Newsroom in Toronto. In a career that has spanned 30 years, he also has worked for
The Canadian Press, CTV, Global-TV and written a column on religion
for The London Free Press. He has studied and written much about different
faiths and the impact of religion on people and events, as well as taking part in efforts to promote inter-faith dialogue and understanding. Of course, his choice of language when speaking about religion and spirituality has become intrinsic in Rob's own work.
.
Courageous Acts at Work
If asked to define courage, what would you say? Many would agree with this
definition: Being able to act despite the fear. Yet, does fear often hold you
back from action despite your desire to be courageous? Imagine if you could
courageously stand up for what you believe in, be who you truly are. How could
the situations and problems in your life be transformed? In this workshop,
re-connect with what courage means to you. Learn simple principles and techniques
that will help you have the Courage to Act.
ENNEAGRAM at WORK:
Are you able to communicate at work so that others truly understand what
you mean to say? Can you give constructive feedback so that others do not
feel defensive, but actually improve their performance? Can you manage
conflict in a productive and respectful way? The Enneagram is a powerful
system that enables profound insights into our motivations, beliefs, focus
of attention, and habits of thinking and feeling. Use this knowledge to
develop practical steps, specific to your Enneagram style, to relate more
effectively with others. Enneagram styles differ from Myers-Briggs types
in that you find your place on the Enneagram through your inner experience
rather than your outer behaviour. This program is designed for people who
are already familiar with their Enneagram style, and an Introductory Session
is necessary for those who aren't. LOCATION: In the 2nd floor chapel of our partner, the Toronto Grace
